New York Fashion Week 09

We style trendsetters are more often than not a highlight of the week. This season, I am really enjoying this incredibly ‘futuristic’ slash ‘Blade Runner’ edge that I’m seeing at this collection. I am not too sure what is inspiring designers these days. But we are for sure finally seeing us going technotronic in our clothing.

With high heel leather boots that straddle up the thigh, to amazing graphic designs on the very sleek dresses. the collection featured strong leather jackets and incredible knitwear - this season more maximal than the last. And back to those ‘thigh high boots’ brought their hip-high strappy boots to complement our ’star treking’ days ahead. Which I dare to say - will be quite wearable as 2009 spins into fall fashion.

At this moment we boast to go ‘Haute Couture’ with a portrayal of sculptured designs. And of course a lot of fashion composition and flare.

But what are we seeing here? Fun 80’s fashion being revived? With a touch of color desperation? But wait a minute. Those colors do fair well, and bravo Marc for going all the way. I am enjoying the combinations of crushed purples, mixed with greens. Or those very bold gold and yellow numbers. This collection is bright and electric. And really what more do we expect from Marc? Then these over the top and daring designs. He really has never played it safe. But with such international recognition in the fashion world, we just could not over look this playful jester’s world.

The Makeup Junkie: Can’t Live Without Cosmetics

Now I am certainly not saying that a person needs makeup to look beautiful, in fact there are some lucky women who need none at all. I have never been that woman.

On with the fun, let’s start with the most basic of our basics:

1) Lip Balm: can be tinted or not, whatever your mood dictates. I hate having chapped lips, they can be very painful and they can look very bad. Have you notice that when you talk to someone you spend a lot of time looking at their mouths? Well, I’d rather them see a smooth pair of lips, instead of something that resembles lizard skin.

2) Concealer: I don’t really sleep. Like ever. So, yes concealer is soooo important to me. I don’t break out too frequently (which is a minor miracle considering the fact that I drink water minimally, but I digress), so I don’t put a lot of cover up on my face, but it is vital for covering up the dark and ominous bags that haunt the area under my eyes.

I think that if one had a great lip balm and a great concealer and used them properly then she could leave the house with head held high looking beautiful.

So that’s the bare minimum right there.

Now I start to add the things that make feel pretty- not just presentable, and, I do this by drawing attention to the parts of my face that I want to accentuate. Which brings us to:

3) Eyeliner: I could live without eye shadows (wouldn’t want to, though I could), but the world would be a cruel, cruel place if eyeliner didn’t exist. Even we men are starting to feel this way.

4) Blush: Blush gives your face added dimension, and color, and fine— this is really because of my sister in law. She pounded it into my head that without blush I looked “dead.” So I never go anywhere without it on. Although, I do really believe it gives your face added dimension. You can contour with it. You can highlight with it. Blush is fantastic.

The predominant colours are blue, a colour that recalls peace, satisfaction, harmony and inner tranquillity.

Green is another of the favourite colours, it conveys stability, strength, firmness, psychological equilibrium and self-esteem.

Purple that was the king of all this autumn and winter fashion, will continue to be a must as regards also next hot weathers.

Women's Hair Trend this Year

There's little point in wearing clothes from 2009's fashion trend unless you have the one other major element just right: hair.

Taking their cues from 2008, in 2009 women's hair trends will play to the extremes. They might be extremely short, extremely girly, extremely sexual or extremely slick. It'll only be the bob hair cut which will sit somewhere to the left of extreme; and you're going to be hard pressed to find that hair style on fashion forward women.

Women's Hair Cut Trends 2009

Throughout 2008, women's hair cuts did one thing: they got shorter. There was the bob hair trend, the pixie-crop hair trend, and a plethora of others in between.

And unlike the length of women's hair, their popularity grew.

Which leaves us with an interesting predicament for 2009's hair trends: the fashion forward, short hair styles of 2008 are no longer fashion forward. They're no longer unique. Every women and her chuiauia got one.

So in 2009, fashion forward girls have a choice to make: keep the bobs and blend into the crowd or, to stand out, cut their hair shorter or let it grow.

The Cropped Bob & The Pixie Crop

Girls who cut the bob in 2008 and want a fashion forward look in 2009, are going to have to either let their hair grow out or go something more extreme. Enter the cropped bob and the pixie crop; both perfect for Spring/Summer 2009, but far more difficult to wear for Autumn (Fall)/Winter 2008/2009.

AGYNESS DEYN's Short Fringed Bob

What's so different about Deyn's new haircut? Aside from merging the 1920s flapper trend with modern rock-chic, it's shorter - much shorter. The fringe is not eye-sweeping but sharply cropped to the middle of the forehead. And the all-round length is shorter too - meaning those who opted for the popular chin-length bobs and concave pobs in 07-08, will have the option of taking it a step further. Or shorter, as the case may be.

In the past Deyn has proved to be more daring than most, so will others follow her lead? We'll be keeping an eye out.

KAte Holmes's Short Cropped Bob

A bobbed style with a very deep fringe, Katie's new shorter cut is looking a tad boyish and un-glamorous. But on these angles, so are most things. We'll reserve judgment for when we see some more snaps.

The many sides of Victoria Beckhams Pixie Crop

The first time I saw the pixie crop hair style on Victoria Beckham I knew she was out there to make headlines. And though the pixie crop is a definite 2009 hair trend, it was from men's 2009 hair trend that Beckham took more of her style cues. Today it's out with the schoolboy and in with tousled, and we have all the angles to show it off.

Elisha Cuthbert and Selma Blair's Pixie Crop

pobs and bobs are quite commonplace at the moment, but the pixie-crop is that one step more daring. I noticed a few pivie crops going around though - and Elisha Cuthbert is the latest celebrity to join their ranks.
Elisha's crop is light blonde with jagged edges, the front longer in a sort of fringe while the back is cropped boy-short.

Selma Blair has long been a pixie-cut wearer, recently stepping out to show that her style hasn't changed. It's currently very similar to Elisha's, longer at the front, only in her natural brunette colour.

The Bob

Perhaps both the cropped bob and pixie crop are too extreme for you? Or perhaps you've just got a bob and are eager to keep it. Never fear, the bob hair cut is still in fashion in 2009. It's just not as unique, but paired with the right clothes and hair style you can still own this look.

And what hair styles should you pair a bob with in 2009? If you're bob is chin length, look at sexing it up with the bed hair style, or if your bob is shoulder length also consider an adaptation of the mermaid/ 1940's wave hair style as well as bed hair.

The Architectural Silhouette

Sculptured Shapes

The new silhouette shape for Autumn 2008 shows an architectural leaning. This is a fashion trend to seriously follow.

These new architectural silhouettes create striking new shapes which often have the appearance of moulded forms.

Coats

Coats, and in particular jackets, have a sculpted feel. This effect is made more noticeable by the blank canvas effect of strong rich solid colours, such as teal, purple and orange.

Three main coat styles are vying for attention as the hottest fashion trend this winter.

Loose Coats with Undefined Waistlines

Coats frequently have looseness with easy shoulder lines and capacious sleeves. This loose style is also perfect for fur materials. Trends in collars suggest high funnel stands, shawl collars, large flat collars, geometric cowls, or fur trims which give this style its precision. Here is a classic opportunity for buying a statement fashion coat.

Defined Waist/Belted Coats

Statement making coats dominated the catwalks this Autumn. Luxury materials such as cashmere and satin help create opulent effects. Look out for plenty of pastel coats in soft ice cream colours. The fashion trend for rich damask glossy metallic finishes continues and look out too for fur trims on hems and cuffs.

The more intricate the catwalk construction, the slower the design is to reach the high street. Something has to give, and its usually the quality of finish, yet this high street coat really does bring fashion to the masses. It is shorter than the Celine version, and the skirt has less fullness, but it's hot on trend with light teal blue as one of the strongest fashion colours of Autumn

Trousers - Carrot Top Pants & Flares

But the style getting attention is a slim line version of the peg-top trouser line, which was a popular 1980s fashion. These peg-top trousers sometimes now called carrot-top trousers taper to the ankle, and usually have tuck pleat fullness at the waistband. This style can be very flattering if you have a tummy. Note that too much fullness can make a woman look frumpy. This was sharp and sophisticated designing.
